The daylight focused people's attention to the corner of the blind street where the dustbin was. There was  a huge monkey with a tail as long as the cold dark corridor of Santu's school's 2nd floor. It seemed from the way she was exploring the dirty foul smell-emitting dustbin that it must be hungry. But the moment human eyes were fixed at him, he looked withdrawn and lazy.She sat on the middle of the narrow street with philosophic eyes. Dogs came to unleash venomous anger but her impassivity let them down so much that they too turned into spectators. The monkey yawned then and then with half-shut eyes played with flies with its' tail. Out of veneration, few people offered her food while the rest decided to watch it. The monkey munched a bit of banana but then threw the rest to the dustbin. The grand old man of the locality Shivu Buro suggested that the animal must be having high blood pressure. The morning was sultry from the beginning. In spite of the monsoon month no rain came for last three days. Cool water could freshen the monkey. Being the ex-head priest of the Kali Temple of the town,nobody argued with him but brought water in a bucket . The monkey showed no interest. The sun smiled in that water . She must be sad for her loved ones. Perhaps her family had been infected with covid-19!The suggestion came from the homeopathy doctor . He wanted to offer her arsenic album but before that the nutcase Nontu ran towards her and threw his own mask. Monkey wasn't perturbed at all . Rather she intensified the degree of nonchalance. She seemed to be smearing it. Santu's elder sister being pragmatic requested the rest to put aside all the namby-pambiness to put the creature away for who knew if the monkey herself was infected by some disease. She also told them not to call that monkey poor baby for the creature wasn't at all little and she was neither pretty. Elder sister's words made an impact on her...especially the word baby(at least that's what Santu noted. Perhaps the monkey came here in search of her lost baby and she looked pensive by not getting her junior which was quite natural. The creature stayed there for a while till she disappeared climbing from one tree to another...jumping from one rooftop to another. Couple of days  back when a troop of monkey popped up from nowhere Santu saw a huge monkey with baby in her lap. He recognized her with her big tail. The tail was indeed as long as the cold dark corridor of Santu's school's 2nd floor.Santu's elder sister was happy that her brother paid so much importance to her words and tried to establish it to the rest. Though what she didn't risk asking him how the monkey reacted to the word 'baby'!
